The Smartphone Epidemic

A threat to health, education and society

In the last ten years, the smartphone has conquered the world with tremendous speed and changed the daily lives of four billion users like no other technical innovation before. From morning till night, at work and in private life, nothing seems to function without a smartphone. But does its use come at a price? Seen predominantly in a positive context, few care about the negative effects of smartphones on our thinking, feelings and actions, our health and our society. Investors and entrepreneurs are increasingly warning about the health consequences of excessive use of smartphones. The head of Apple recommends that smartphones should not be used in schools. The French president has completely banned their use in the classroom; and South Korea has for years passed laws protecting young people from the negative consequences of cell phone use. Smartphones, used without restrictions, harm health, education and society as a whole. When will we finally wake up?
