Weekend.18 Supports the “Sretno more” Initiative: Rovinj Clean and Ready for the Festival

On the occasion of Rovinj City Day and ahead of the largest regional communications industry festival, Weekend.18 supported the third environmental action as part of the “Sretno more” (Safe Seas) initiative launched by Telemach and its partners. At Porton Biondi beach, volunteers, divers, and students collected more than 200 kilograms of waste from the sea and coastline, showing how joint efforts and technology can make a real difference.

Students from Vladimir Nazor Elementary School played a special role in the initiative, taking part in an educational program by the Ruđer Bošković Institute where they learned about the impact of marine waste on the ecosystem, documented it, and removed it. An innovative element of the cleanup was the autonomous vessel Faust V, which, using Telemach’s 5G network, scans the seabed in real time, making the work easier for divers and young volunteers.

With this action, Weekend.18 once again confirmed its focus on sustainability. Boris Kovaček, co-owner of the Pepermint agency and organizer of Weekend.18, said: “As someone who truly loves the sea, I was delighted to take part in the underwater cleanup in Rovinj. I’m especially pleased that this initiative also marks the announcement of the upcoming Weekend Media Festival, which has for years gathered leaders, creatives, and visionaries — and this year, in partnership with Telemach as our Connectivity Partner, we are putting even stronger emphasis on sustainability and concrete actions.”

The three actions organized so far within the initiative have collected more than four tons of waste and educated over 130 children, strengthening environmental awareness among the youngest generations. Igor Duić, Director of Corporate Communications at Telemach, emphasized: “Sretno more combines care for the environment with innovative technological solutions, showing how community and technology can be key to preserving natural beauty and the sustainability of local communities.”

With this project, Weekend.18 and Telemach show that the creative and tech industries can actively contribute to environmental protection, inspire local communities, and create tangible positive impact. Telemach will have the opportunity to present the project at this year’s edition of the festival and inspire visitors to take their own steps toward sustainability.
