Jan Grarup stands among the most esteemed war photographers of our time, with an impressive collection of accolades to his name. His achievements include eight World Press Photography awards and the coveted Leica Oskar Barnack award. In addition, he secured the VISA D’OR for his insightful coverage of the Darfur humanitarian crisis, and in 2022, triumphed against 340,000 submissions to win the SONY World Photo Award for highlighting the overlooked crisis in Colombia. Grarup firmly believes that photojournalism is the most potent medium for recounting challenging and dramatic narratives. His compelling photography, featured in prestigious global publications like The New York Times, Newsweek, Time, and National Geographic, attests to this conviction. Apart from his work in photojournalism, Grarup is a successful author. His published works include “Where the Iron Crosses Grow – Memoirs of a War Photographer” and “And Then There Was Silence.” He continues to combine his passion for writing and photography in his upcoming book, “While We Bleed,” which focuses on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This project, undertaken in partnership with Danish journalist Adam Holm, is slated for release later this year.
