From Technology to Literature at the 14th Weekend Media Festival
Just one more weekend until the Weekend

Artificial intelligence, gaming and literature are just some of the topics that regional experts will present and discuss in detail at the 14th Weekend Media Festival. The best Weekend of the year will take place in Rovinj from September 23 to 26 at the old Tobacco Factory under the slogan #živioživot.

The development of new advanced technologies affects all areas of human activity. But what we don’t understand often frightens us. Are people redundant in the face of increasingly advanced artificial intelligence or are we needed more than ever? Marko Lukičić, director of Acquaint; well-known Croatian astronomer and head of the Višnjan Observatory, Korado Korlević; and Sašo Dimitrijevski from Pristop, will discuss whether the digital revolution is over or just beginning. This distinguished panel—moderated by programmer, scientist and entrepreneur Davor Runje (CISEx)—will try to answer the pressing question of whether we should be afraid of artificial intelligence.

Video game fans will certainly not want to miss the panel How gaming has changed the world featuring the founder and CEO of Two Desperados, Vojislav Milutinović; executive manager of the Serbian Video Game Industry Association, Kristina Janković; and director and founder of Nanobit, Alan Sumina. Moderated by Jovana Tomić (Comms Coach) and hosted by Boško Đorđević (GRAND GAMING OPEN/Games.con), attendees will have the opportunity to hear all about the characteristics of modern video games and find out if there is a place for marketing experts in the gaming world.

Entrepreneurs do not have a positive image in Croatian society. Well, at least that’s what a third of economics students said in a research study conducted by the Institute of Economics. Is it possible that the stigma of transition and privatization has left a lasting impression on the segment of society that is considered a driver of economic development in most countries, or is it a more complex issue and a consequence of a specific cultural heritage? These issues will be discussed by the president of Glas poduzetnika, Hrvoje Bujas; the president of the Croatian Employers’ Association, Mihael Furjan; and Stjepan Orešković, PhD. (M + Group), in the panel Entrepreneur: Public Ally Number One, moderated by the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Večernji list, Mislav Šimatović.

Those who enjoy reading a good book should not miss the “Read Me Gently” panel. Writer and university professor Julijana Matanović, and Croatian academic, writer and translator Pavao Pavličić understand the role of literature in contemporary society better than anyone. This panel will discuss the challenges that today’s writers face as well as the role of good PR in the success of a literary work. The panel will be moderated by Dražen Ilinčić, writer and HRT journalist.
